Features » DNA Reunion
DNA is a powerful way to connect family members. When the paper trail ends, DNA can provide strong leads for finding missing relatives and filling in gaps in your family tree. The DNA Reunion Database allows individuals who have tested their DNA markers to search for matches in an attempt to find close and distant family members.
DNA markers searchable in this database are:
No, participation in the DNA Reunion database is entirely optional. After your test is complete, you can choose whether or not you wish to submit your markers for searching.
The Y-DNA STR marker search will allow you to detect close and distant relatives along your direct paternal line. All males who have descended from the same forefather will have exactly the same or very similar Y-DNA STR markers. Once a match is found, the built in DNA calculator will determine approximately how many generations ago you and the matching individual shared a common paternal ancestor. You can use the internal discreet messaging system to contact matches.
The mtDNA search will allow you to detect matches along your direct maternal line. A perfect match with another individual indicates that you may possibly be descendents of the same maternal line. Since the SNP markers in mtDNA mutate at a rate of once every few thousand years, a perfect match in your mtDNA indicates that you are likely from the same maternal lineage but does not necessarily indicate that you are close relatives, as it will detect all relatives that are in your direct maternal line within many generations. However, any individual who does not match your mtDNA is definitely not related to you within your maternal lineage.
Autosomal DNA STR markers are used for relationship testing, such as paternity tests, maternity test, grandparentage tests, aunt/uncle tests, cousin tests, sibling tests, etc. Autosomal STR markers are used for investigating the relationship of close immediate family members. Autosomal STR markers are strictly for investing close family relationships of immediate family members.
New data is added to the database daily. The database will automatically search for you and notify you by email whenever a potential match joins the registry.
